History of the Promised Land Camp

Summer camps have played an important part in the lives of many young people. Testimony after testimony is given as to the influence a camp  had on individuals.  One of the greatest movements that God has used to win young people to Christ and to call them to full-time service for our Lord has been the summer camping programs.

The property, located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, formerly a Boy Scout camp, was purchased on December 1, 1975. The 126 acres contained a house, swimming pool, dining hall, a recreation hall, artificial lake, camp store, picnic pavilion, lodges, and cabins.

1977 - David Hess Jr. became the director.  The first winter camp was held from December 27-28.  Ski Retreats, couples conferences, sports camps, deaf camps were added to   further use  facilities all year round.

1980 - A new tabernacle was constructed as an expansion of the dining hall, more cabins, horses basketball courts and a ropes course were added.

1993 - A multi-purpose building was dedicated on Memorial day of this year.

Present -Improvements are planned for additional buildings and upgrades under the leadership of Randy Hilton as Director, Matt Reider as Assistant Director, and David Hess Jr as the former Director.
